Buck Sneaks Out New Frontiersman in Latest Stealth Run

Buck Stealth Run release number 15 is a brand new take on a long-running fixed blade favorite. It’s called the Frontiersman Sport, an updated version of the storied original with modern materials and a super cool aesthetic.

Buck’s catalog has diversified considerably over the last decade, but their legacy models still form the core of the Buck experience for many. The 124 Frontiersman is one of those legacy models, an outdoors fixed blade that got everything pretty much right the first time around if sales and enduring popularity are anything to go by. But it didn’t start out as an outdoors knife – or, at least, not the kind of outdoors we associate it with today. You see, the Frontiersman model was born in the late 60s, but was actually derived from, of all things, a dive knife called the Nemo.

The sheath comes stamped with the model number

The Buck crew elongated the blade length for the Froniersman Sport, bringing it up by about a quarter of an inch to 6.5″ total. The grind is a full flat grind now, and the steel has made quite the leap from the standard model. Instead of 420HC, the Sport, uh, sports CPM Cru-Wear, an absolute bruiser in the super steel category, well-known for its toughness and no slouch in the edge holding department either. It’s semi-stainless, but with a full black Cerakote applied here on the Sport corrosion resistance should be more or less akin to that of its stainless parent.

The handle design is carried forward from the OG, but now dressed in removable modern materials. That’s right, the Sport’s Micarta scales can be removed – as can the pommel piece which, like the guard is made from aluminum. Perhaps because of this material swap (or maybe it’s the grind) the Frontiersman Sport is a fair bit lighter than the standard 124, with a total listed weight of 10.3 oz. compared to 13.3 for dear old dad. As is no surprise for a limited edition fixed blade, the Sport is provided with a fancy schmancy leather sheath as well.

Speaking of limited: Just 1000 pieces in this run, so act quickly if you’re interested.
