Ostap Hel is back for another round at We Knife Co., this time collaborating to produce the Trion folder. This piece is on the larger side but even with the additional beef it doesn’t lose any of Hel’s signature super clean style.

These days, We Knife Co. is a household name – well, at least in knife enthusiast households; and one of the things they’re known for is lavishing very high fit and finish on all their knives. This means that some of their pieces are a unique blend of beauty and the beast, where they are meant to be used, but are almost too refined-feeling to want to use. This dual nature is particularly evident on their larger pieces – like the Trion here.

Lefties, this one is fully compatible for you!

With a total length of 3.78 inches, the Trion’s blade is spacious enough for big cutting jobs. This might be the first time we’ve ever seen a blade shape described as a “modified spey point,” but whatever you want to call it, Hel’s spare lines make it clear that this is a profile that won’t throw up any untoward surprises, instead doing exactly what is asked of it at any given time and, thanks to the M390 steel, going for long stretches before a visit to the stones becomes necessary.

Hel gave the Trion an angular, linear handle that contrasts the long smooth curves of the blade. The scales are titanium slabs with healthy chamfering around their entire perimeter and an inlay of either carbon fiber or titanium providing the requisite pop of color. The crossbar lock makes its umpteenth appearance here, accompanied by a reversible pocket clip and dual thumb studs for deployment. The Trion has listed weight of 4.92 for the all-ti model and 4.27 for the carbon fiber inlay version.

No release date on this one yet, but We Knife Co. ain’t known for dragging their feet.
