The Pentagon wants $200 billion in order to fund the war it started by bombing Iran in joint attacks with Israel on February 28th. Some political parasites in the ruling class are pushing back against the amount as it exceeds half of Iran’s GDP (gross domestic product).

Pentagon Confirms 3 Deaths, Iran Claims It Killed 200 In Strikes

If this budget is approved, the figure would far exceed the cost of US President Donald Trump’s military operation against Iran to date, and is aimed at rapidly boosting the production of critical weapons depleted during the US-Israeli strikes, the outlet said on Wednesday.

The U.S. spent more than $11 billion in the first week of the war alone. Combined with the proposed funding, total costs could exceed half of Iran’s annual GDP, which was $356.5 billion in 2025.

The U.S. has also already killed a number of high-ranking officials and commanders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran Has Confirmed The Death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

According to a report by The Washington Post [behind a paywall], the plan is likely to trigger a political battle in Congress, the outlet said, “as public support for the effort remains tepid and Democrats have been sharply critical.”

“$200 BILLION for a war of choice that Americans don’t want and that isn’t making us safer. This should be an absolute nonstarter,” Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen wrote on X on Wednesday, adding that “the best way to end this war… is to ‘cut off funding.’”

Other lawmakers have commented on the costs. “The Iran War will cost $200B. Prices in the U.S. are spiking. The Middle East is on fire. A dozen soldiers are dead, more to come,” Senator Chris Murphy said.

The U.S. seeks the funding as the war continues to expand. It will likely help cause more inflation, as many are already struggling to pay their bills. The cost of living is spiraling out of control upward, and the affordability crisis continues to worsen. Asking for more money to be created out of thin air by the central bank to fund an unnecessary war is incredibly detrimental to those already struggling.
