New from Ostap Hel and Bestech is the incoming Duoz. Hel is always trying new things and the Duoz looks like a fusion between a fillet knife and an everyday carry flipper.

To be clear, the fillet knife vibe is just that, a vibe. Like all Ostap Hel folders, the Duoz is clearly meant to go into the pocket and tackle day-to-day cutting chores, not prepare fish for the fryer. The sweeping, slender trailing point blade brings that maritime pattern to mind, but the compound grind screams modern user – as does the steel, 14C28N stainless, entry-level stuff that still manages to find favor with the enthusiasts thanks to its balanced, reasonable characteristics.

Instantly recognizable as a Hel design

Given the confined spaces Hel was working with here, he managed to pack in the ergonomic details where it counts – and we’re not even talking about grip yet. Rather, notice the concave area on the space where the flipper tab sits – it provides lots of clearance for reliable firing, and makes indexing without looking down at the knife easier too. There’s a nice long cutout on the channel side to provide easy access to the other key mechanism on the Duoz, it’s liner lock.

And with that, we are talking about the handle. The straight handle with square accents is pure Hel, and the G-10 scales help it to fill the hand without adding a ton of weight. Speaking of, you’re probably wondering what this thing weighs – Bestech lists the weight for this 3.34 inch-bladed knife at just 2.15 oz. A ramrod straight, reversible deep carry pocket clip caps off the feature list here.

No firm release date for the Duoz as yet – but it is coming.
