Suppressors have a bad habit of blocking your irons, but a set of tall TAG Precision fiber optic sights fixes that.
Suppressors are exciting, but a lot of people these days are buying them before considering the downstream effects of mounting them to their intended gun. In the case of pistols, many shooters go to screw a can on for the first time only to realize that it renders the iron sights unusable. To have enough internal volume to be effective, most handgun suppressors are made to be fat enough that they block your view of the target while aiming through standard-height sights. That’s why companies like TAG Precision offer suppressor-height sights.

TAG Precision TSH OR Fiber Optic Sights
I have a buddy with a Sig P220 that he suppressed years ago, but I knew he never bothered getting suppressor-height sights for it. He surprisingly managed to shoot it OK with the irons obscured, but having sights that you can actually use is a lot better than not. Once installed, they performed exactly as advertised. FiberLok Technology
There are a lot of fiber optic iron sight options on the market, but not all are made equally. Enough folks have had their fiber optic insert fly out while shooting that it has tainted the reputation of fiber optics as a whole. Solution? TAG’s FiberLok technology.
What does TAG’s FiberLok system do differently than other fiber optic sights? It mechanically locks the fiber optic insert in place, and the company says that it’s tested the system with over 65,000 rounds without a fiber failure. That’s impressive.
Besides being a solid, durable system, FiberLok has another advantage: customization. The Sig TSH front sight TAG sent me came preinstalled with a red insert, but it also came with a green fiber replacement and the Allen wrench you need to swap them. If red and green aren’t your style, you can also order a TSH Service Pack that comes with an orange, black, and white insert (as well as red and green).
Swapping the insert is easy. You simply use the Allen wrench to remove the FiberLok screw, pull out the old insert, install the new color of choice, and secure it all in place again with the screw. The screw had telltale signs of threadlocker on it once removed, so I’d suggest reapplying some before reinstallation. The process only takes a couple of minutes, so you can even swap them out at the range to see what you like best. The screws and inserts are tiny, however, so be careful about losing them.
Parting Shot
Red dot sights and suppressors have never been more popular pistol accessories than they are today, and if you want to be able to co-witness your dot or see over your can, most factory handguns will need taller irons.
