After the United States won its second match of the tournament against Australia to punch its ticket to the Round of 32, all attention turned to a team that has become America’s second-favorite in the FIFA World Cup, Scotland.

The Tartan Army has been putting on a show since they arrived in the United States (and before, honestly), and spirits have been high for their first World Cup appearance in 28 years. It got off to a solid start with a 1-0 win over Haiti.

On Friday, they were gearing up for their second match of the tournament against a very good team from Morocco, which opened its slate with a draw against Brazil.

Just like their first match, this one was at Boston Stadium (also known as Gillette Stadium), and the city has really embraced Scotland and their supporters.

Look at what was going on before the match.

I half-expected to see Mel Gibson with blue paint slathered on his face out in front leading them down the street.

How do you not get wrapped up in that? The bagpipes, the booze, the kilts! You’d have to be missing a pulse not to get swept up in it.

I mean, even ducks were getting in on it over in Providence.

For those keeping score at home, yes, that was the second soccer hooligan duck of this World Cup, which I’m pretty comfortable declaring is a record.

Scotland supporters were well represented inside the stadium and belted out their unofficial national anthem, “Flower of Scotland.”

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the excitement to subside a little bit when Morocco scored an early goal in the second minute, and that was all they needed.

Scotland pressed hard late and got some stellar opportunities, but it wasn’t enough, with Morocco winning 1-0.

That moves Morocco — one of the favorites to go all the way — into first place in Group C, while Scotland falls to second.

The next match for the Scots is another tough one against Brazil, down in Miami.
