Maciej Torbé has returned to his Civivi stomping ground for a new fixed blade, the Scoopth. The Scoopth falls right in line with previous Civivi/Torbé collabs, which have always been fixed blade models with striking lines.

What is a Scoopth? Perhaps only Torbé knows, but it’s certainly fun to say. And the term does seem to evoke an aspect of the knife, in that its wide blade features a compound grind with a big “scoop” on the forward, thinner half of the profile. And there’s another scoop on the spine, just aft of the jimping, lending the Scoopth the quirked up attitude that all Torbé’s work seems to possess.

The classy wooden scale model

With a cutting edge of 4.9 inches, the Scoopth easily qualifies as an outdoors user, with the beefiness to back it up. The Nitro-V steel used here delivers balanced metrics in terms of toughness and corrosion resistance, and isn’t going to be a bear when the need for a sharpening arises.

Torbé’s handle design, while just as characterful as his blade shapes, hews a little closer to the accepted geometries; it’s easy to see sensible cuts and curves beneath the exaggerated styling. The scales are available in either G-10 (with a pre-historic dino scale texturing), or classed up guibourtia wood. The wood scale model also comes with a satin finish, rather than DLC’d blade. The Scoopth weighs 9.57 oz.
