The United States and Iran have suspended attacks on each other for two weeks. The temporary hold comes as Iran signals that it could be reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

The two sides have agreed to a “double-sided ceasefire” contingent on Tehran agreeing to the “complete” and “immediate” opening of the Strait of Hormuz. The news prompted oil prices to drop by around 13% and shares to rise in early trading in Asia.

Trump’s Deadline For The Opening Of The Strait Of Hormuz Is “Final”

The threats leading up to this ceasefire agreement were getting progressively more aggressive and volatile. Yesterday, U.S. ruler Donald Trump said that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran does not make a deal with him to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway, according to a report by Reuters.

Tehran’s 10-point plan reportedly includes US commitments to non‑aggression, Iran’s continued control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, the lifting of all sanctions, termination of UN Security Council and IAEA resolutions, payment of war reparations, withdrawal of US combat forces from the region, and a halt to the war on all fronts, including against the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon.

Tehran remains defiant, saying that the move represents a “historic and crushing defeat” for the US, claiming Washington has been forced to accept Tehran’s 10‑point plan as the basis for talks.

The announcement of a ceasefire with Iran by Donald Trump is a “major defeat” for America and Israel, Tehran University professor Seyed Mohammad Marandi has told RT. The conflict has “shown the limitations of the empire,” he said, referring to the US.

Marandi also stressed that Lebanon was included in the truce and that by continuing attacks there, Israel is “basically sending a message to the entire world that they don’t want the globe to have oil, and LNG, and fertilizers.” Tehran will not allow Israel to target the Lebanese and the Palestinians, he insisted.
