Benchmade Slipridge Series Slides onto Shelves

Behold, a new Benchmade model has arrived – or rather, a new Benchmade series, because the Slipridge comes in both fixed and folding versions, designed for outdoors use.

No company does a drop point quite like Benchmade, and the company has lavished a very good one on the Slipridge knives. In both formats it is well-proportioned, with a nice radial grind around and down from the swedge, and a wear-resistant stonewash finish. The fixed blade Slipridge is the bigger of the two, of course, with a 3.7-inch blade length – but the folder isn’t far behind, measuring 3.5 inches. The steel here is AUS8 – just kidding. It’s MagnaCut, of course! The stuff has earned its stripes in just about every knife role there is, from culinary applications to rust resistant waterside utility jobs, so the Slipridges should inspire confidence in the outdoorsmen who take them on treks and trips.

The fixed blade Slipridge bears a strong resemblance to its folding sibling

Ergonomically there is much similarity between folder and fixie as well. Both formats have chunky guards that beetle over a single wide but shallow finger groove. The most prominent difference in handle silhouette is at the butt end: the folder has a squared off, fairly straight tail, while the fixed blade has a well-defined beak to bracket the user’s hand. The fixed blade Slipridge comes with a green Kydex sheath branded with the Butterfly, while the folder sports one of the standard-issue Benchmade clips, the stubby deep carry number.

Benchmade is also debuting this series with some accessories. The most practical accessory is the Slipridge Hook – in many was a third model unto itself, a gut hook made from a skeletonized single piece of 440C steel. In fact, the fixed blade Slipridge can be purchased in a combo pack with the Hook, and the sheath for the latter bolts right on top that of the former. Meanwhile three standalone scale options exist for the Slipridge folder: green G-10, black canvas Micarta, and carbon fiber. There is also an option to buy the stablized wood scales if you started with the G-10 version.

The entire Slipridge series is available now.
