Civivi Creates New Elite Line to Showcase Higher-End Materials

Civivi has inaugurated a new series into their lineup, called Civivi Elite. As you have probably gleaned from the name, the Elite models are made from higher-end materials than pieces in the standard Civivi line. The Brova is the first Elite model and thus will function as a statement piece for the entire series.

The Elite models target a niche between Civivi and We Knife Co. – and, unless We goes for a super premium, mid-techish level, helps the We Knife Co. family hit every major price point in the production scene. Sencut provides entry level models exclusively; Civivi normally offers higher-performance knives, but ones that are still relatively wallet-friendly; and We took up the full fat premium sector with its $200+ knife designs. There was a definite gap, in other words, between the highest-end Civivi models and the place where the We Knife Co.-branded releases began – and that’s where Elite fits in.

There are three different colorations available, but all with the same materials

The Brova is a mid-sized, aggressive looking EDC knife with a 3.41-inch drop point blade that is kicked out via thumb stud. The Elite touch here comes in the form of the blade steel which, instead of the usual Civivi choices like 14C28N, Nitro-V, or D2, is a bonified (if elder) super steel, S35VN. A steel formulated expressly for use in knife production, S35VN is a storied recipe in the production knife scene, and is still implemented regularly even though its direct sequel, S45VN, is out and about as well. On the off-chance you aren’t familiar with it, S35VN is a balanced stainless, with strong edge retention, high corrosion resistance, and decent toughness.

The Brova’s handle is made from aluminum, with extra attention lavished on it in the form of considered chamfering and a sort of faux-inlay look on both scales. The mechanism in use is a Top Liner Lock – a button-operated mechanism that uses a spine-side locking leaf to secure the blade, not entirely dissimilar from Spyderco’s Compression Lock. The deep carry pocket clip can be swapped to either side, and Civivi lists the Brova’s weight as 3.78 oz.

The Brova releases on July 27th.
